Welding qualification to an appropriate code, most often AWS D1.1 for structural work, is process and position specific and needs continuity. Metalworking skills credentials document fabrication and machine competence. Overhead crane and rigging training is a standard shop requirement. The trade is not individually licensed in the United States.

Describe the work in the units the trade uses: square footage, linear feet, tonnage, service calls per day, machines run, crew size.
