Surgical Technologist Cover Letter Example

How to adapt this for your own application
The structure above is doing the work, not the wording. Replace every specific with your own and the letter still holds together — that is the point of keeping it to three paragraphs.
Paragraph one: the role, and why you are credible
Name the exact job title and where you saw it. Then one line establishing that you already do this work. Skip "I am writing to express my keen interest" — it uses a sentence to say nothing.
Paragraph two: one achievement, with a number
Choose the achievement most relevant to the posting rather than the one you are proudest of. Attach a figure to it: a percentage, a dollar amount, a volume, a timeframe. One specific result is worth more than three general claims, and it gives the interviewer something concrete to ask about.
Paragraph three: why this employer
This is where most letters fail. "I admire your commitment to excellence" could be sent to anyone, and it reads as filler. Name something real — a product, a recent announcement, how the team works — and connect it to your own experience. If you genuinely cannot find anything specific to say, that is worth noticing before you apply.
Mistakes that cost surgical technologist candidates
- Writing "assisted in surgery" instead of naming procedures, so the manager cannot map you to a block schedule
- Omitting case volume per week, which is how OR leaders judge whether you can hold a busy room
- Leaving out robotics or speciality trays when you have them, since those are the exact skills that differentiate candidates
Those are resume mistakes, but they apply to the letter for the same reason: both documents are read by someone deciding quickly whether you understand the job.

Do I still need a cover letter for surgical technologist roles?
When the application asks for one, always include it, since incomplete applications are often filtered before anyone reads them. When it is optional, it is still worth writing for competitive roles, career changes and employment gaps, where a resume alone handles the context badly.
